Sunday Sep 13, 2020
This week I get to speak with Daniel Beam, former Rio Rancho Ram and current Western New Mexico Mustang. We had a lot of fun talking about some of the current records being broken at the elite level and his short career as a sprinter in high school.
We talked about the upcoming cross country schedule, running without worries, and representing the United States at the Pan Am games. He also talked about the best fish taco he has ever had.
I hope you enjoy the episode as much as I did. We had a lot fun. Please share, stay safe, and keep running, New Mexico.

Episode 29 - Sean Abeyta
Sunday Sep 06, 2020
Sunday Sep 06, 2020
This week I speak with Sean Abeyta, Oakley rep, ultra and trail runner, and all around fun guy. We talk about starting in running and why he choose cross country (hint: it's not what'd you'd expect).
When spend some time also talking about his 15 year break from the sport, something I can relate to, and what was his motivation to be competitive again, and the spark to compete. Personally, I can relate to a lot of Sean's story and I hope that you will find your nuggets as well.
I just want to thank all of you listening and appreciate you taking the time to listen to the stories of our fellow runners.
As things continue to shift and change, be aware and don't get lazy. We are slowly moving in the right direction in our state, but it will take all of us for that to continue.
Be safe, wash your hands, and keep running, New Mexico.

Episode 28 - Coach Bob DeVries
Sunday Aug 30, 2020
Sunday Aug 30, 2020
This week I speak to my old middle social studies teacher and New Mexico Highlands Cross Country and Track Coach, Bob DeVries. Coach DeVries has almost 40 years of coaching experience in high school and college and has been named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's coach of the year twice in his tenure at NMHU.
This was a fun interview where we talk about his unique start to coaching and then spend a lot of time talking about what races might look like, eligibility, and what the incoming freshman look like, including Jasmine Turtle-Morales from episode 3. He is another that I'll have to have on again because he has so much to talk about.
I hope you enjoy this episode and our conversation. Spread the word, stay safe, and keep running, New Mexico.

Sunday Aug 23, 2020
This week I had the pleasure to speak with THE Ken Gordon. He is an ultra runner with an interesting back story and has come to host the Mount Taylor 50k and a few other spur of the moment events. Most recently, he gathered a small group to run from the Rio Grande to the Crest.
It was fun to talk to him about about his ultras and the decision to cancel the Mt. Taylor race this year. I look forward to talking to him more and maybe doing the green dress run one of these St. Patrick's Days.

We touch base with Amy about getting started in running and her active lifestyle that her family shares, but we spend the majority of the episode talking about the Lobo Cancer Challenge, what it means, and why you should be a participant.
This is an important project where all of the money stays and helps those in New Mexico. I encourage you to listen, read about this wonderful event, and sign up, donate, or sponsor someone.

Episode 23 - Dr. Felicia [Guliford] Taylor
Sunday Jul 26, 2020
Sunday Jul 26, 2020
This week I had the pleasure to speak with Dr. Felicia Taylor, but you may know her as Felicia Guliford. During her New Mexico running career she dominated cross country and distance events in track. We look back at some of that success, as well as her time at Tennessee dealing with some success and injuries. She talks about RED-S, trusting her coaches, and how she has used her knowledge to help her runners and how she is still helping female athletes. She is involved in Truth-Spin, to get athletes colleges exposure (typically the native population, but not exclusively), and what the next project is.
It was a wonderful talk and I learned a lot about what kept her motivated and focused through the ups and downs in her career and beyond. I hope you enjoy the conversation as much as I did.
As Dr. Taylor said, use this time to flip your mindset. Coaches will still be recruiting, so get out there and do the work. That works as well for those that are not high schoolers looking to be recruited. Just get out and get working.
In the meantime, enjoy the monsoons and keep running, New Mexico.

Sunday Jul 19, 2020
This week I speak with Sandia High School graduate and state record holder Mia Roy. She talks about getting started in running, transitioning into hurdles, the struggles of missing her senior year, and her future. It was a fun talk with a girl I've known since her freshman year.
Stay strong, wear a mask, think of others, and keep running, New Mexico.

Episode 21 - Mark Nolan
Sunday Jul 12, 2020
Sunday Jul 12, 2020
This week I talk to Mark Nolan. He was a founding member of The Homers Running Club in Albuquerque. He has been in a band with his brother (http://nolanbrothersmusic.com/), climbed the 14ers in Colorado, cross country skis, does roller blade marathons, and has overall had a very active life. We talk about his different endeavors, what keep him motivated, and some of his best memories.
It has been great talking with people I otherwise might never have spoken with. I met Mark one morning on my run and stopped to comment on his old running shirt. From that I got an amazing story that I was happy to share. Now isn't the appropriate time, but think on the community of runners around you and what that can look like in the future.
Stay safe, continue to practice social distancing, good luck with those masks, and keep running, New Mexico.
